Tanzania Fisherman Gets Job and Cash Reward from the President for Saving Passengers in Crashed Plane

A Tanzanian fisherman, Jackson Majaliwa who broke a plane that crashed into Lake Victoria to save about 20 people was recently rewarded by the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu. The incident happened on Sunday, 6th November, 2022.

The young fisherman who was one of the first people to arrive at the scene met with the president and he was given a job in the country's Firefighting and Rescue brigade. He was also given 1 million Tanzanian Shilling ($430).

Jackson was said to have arrived on the scene with 3 other fishermen, but he was the one that broke the rear door to rescue some passengers. A total of 43 people were on the plane, but only 24 people survived and 19 died.


Jackson also sustained an injury that left him unconscious while he was trying to rescue the passengers. A video of him escorted by some security personnels have was also been shared online.
